I Am Currently Reading Sign: (Lead by example! Tell’em what you’re reading!)
This is a quick, easy way to let your students know that you, too, are a reader. Pick one of 20 color choices, print, add your information and post in a visible spot.
Telling students what you are reading (within reason, of course! 😉 ) is a great way to introduce them to good books. And since those books have been recommended by their teacher, students are more likely to seek them out themselves. (If I only had a dollar for every student who has said to me, “Mrs./ Mr. ________ said I should read ___________. Do you have one I can check out?”)
These signs have been used with remarkable success at my middle school. As librarian, I’ve printed them for all of our teachers. They complete and display the signs on or outside of their doors. This has worked well as part of our goal of developing a “reading community” at our school.
During class change, students often ask teachers about the book listed on the sign. Wonderful conversations and teacher/student bonding are some of the cool side-effects you can expect.
